       Dara is a small village of Arcadia 43 kilometres north of Tripoli. The residents are 450 but every Weekend and vacations a lot of people from Athens and other places of Greece visit the place of their origin.
       There are 5 churches. The central church of saint Dimitris, saint George the small church of saint Elias and the new church of Panagia down to the crossroad. There is also a small clinic, a folklore museum and for the time a community office. For the free time there are 3 cafes around the square where the people drink their coffee, chat and play cards and backgammon. There is also a basketball court and a football field.
      As I said a lot of people who come from Dara visit it in vacations and especially in August (14 - 17). Then it is organized a 5-days festival. In 13 August there is the festival of the women at Drosia .In 14 and 15 August is the festival for the feast of Holy Mary and in 16 and 17 is the festival for the youth.
     Every 3 years it is organized a meeting. Every person who comes from Dara, from all over the world (USA, CANADA, EUROPE, AUSTRALIA) comes back to the place of his origin and takes part to this 5-days festival.

DARA IN ATHENS

        In Athens (August 1958) the people who came from Dara founded the club of Darians of Athens-Piraeus named Saint Dimitris. This club has helped lots of times our favourite village. Today the club (his president is Mr. Panagiotis Pallilis) organizes every year a reception giving the chance to the Darians of Athens to feel that they are to the village with their friends. Before 2 years, the club managed to buy a department downtown where the offices of the club were placed.
